These adorable pop-up Easter chicks are perfect for a bit of last-minute crafting at home. All you need is a bit of card and a few other basics to make your own little hatching egg. We had so much fun making these, and I just loved how even though we were all making the same thing, they each turned out so different!
Here’s what we used
- Coloured card
- Pens
- Lollipop sticks
- Sticker eyes
- Scissors
- Glue
How to make pop up easter chicks

Start by cutting out two identical easter eggs from your card. To make this easier we simply folded our piece of card in half and cut out two at the same time.

Now it’s time for the fun part! Use your pens or decor of chosing to decorate the easter eggs and make it look fabulous! This is a great opportunity to practise creating patterns with younger children.

Now take your decorated egg and cut the top of it off using a zigzag pattern to make it look as if the egg is hatching and cracked.

Flip the decorated egg over and add some glue along the two sides but make sure to leave a gap at the bottom so that the popsicle stick can fit through. I’ve added some lines to the egg in the photo as a reference.

Take your second plain egg and glue the bottom of the decorated egg onto it, making sure to allign the two pieces.

Now we need to make the cute little chick to go inside your egg! Start by cutting out a little yellow circle

Cut out two little leaf shaped wings and glue them either side of the chick’s body. Add a face by giving it two eyes and a little triangle beak.

Now take your chick and stick it onto your popsicle stick. Take the top section of egg and glue it onto the chick’s head as if it were a hat.

Push your chick down into the egg and thread the popsicle stick through the little hole that you left in the two eggs earlier on. Your pop up Easter chicks are finished and ready to hatch! Aren’t these just the sweetest!?
