How to make our wiggly paper worms

Start by cutting out eight to ten small rectangles. Ours were approximately 3.5 cm x 7 cm.

Take one of your rectangles, add a strip of glue to one end, and then roll it around and stick it into a tube. Repeat this step with all of your remaining rectangles.

Glue all of your tubes into a line as can been seen above to make your wiggly worm’s body.

Now cut out a long thin strip of paper to make the moving mechanism of the worm

Glue one end of the strip to the head section of the worm. DO NOT glue the tail section onto the strip.

Cut out a shape for the worms base, we went for an oval muddy puddle!

Now look at the last tail section of the worm. Add a little glue directly onto the tail either side of the strip ensuring that you don’t actually get any on the strip itself. Glue this tail section onto one end of your base. The head side should remain free and loose and the strip at the tail end should be able to move freely without sticking.

Add a couple of eyes to your worm, and you’re finished! Leave him to dry completely and then he’s ready to play with, simply pull the strip back and forwards gently to watch him wriggle!
