Duck pond rocker craft

Duck pond rocker craft

paper plate duck pond rocker craft idea for kids

Ever since he was tiny my son has always loved going to see the ducks. Where we live we’re lucky to have some lovely little duck ponds locally and he loves going with his pound coin to buy some feed for them. The ponds are always quiet and the ducks are always out in force so it makes for a really lovely afternoon out. Our personal favourites that we love to try and spot are the mallards with the beautiful green heads, they’re lovely to look at and the ones by us are so friendly too. They always waddle up to say hello (and see if we have anything to eat no doubt) Which has made them particularly popular with my two little ones too!

We decided that we wanted to make a duck themed craft, we’d recently made one of these rockers with a ship on the ocean and thought, why not a duck on a pond too! I think this little duck pond rocker craft turned out pretty cute! what do you think?

Here’s what we used

  • Coloured card
  • Blue (or painted blue) Paper plate
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Eye stickers (optional)

How we made our duck pond rocker craft

First we started by making our cute little duck. To make the body, cut out a curved raindrop shape and then make the head by cutting out a P shaped piece and glue the two together.

Cut out and glue on a triangle for the beak and a wing shape to sit centrally across his body.

Finish off the duck by giving him a big beady eye! Now take your paper plate and fold in in half. Glue your folded paper plate on the front of your duck so that your duck is facing forward as above. If your paper plate is a little bit flimsy and won’t stand, you my need to open it up and pop a dab of glue inside the top corners of you fold to firm it up.

finish your adorable duck pond rocker by adding some little lily pads or pond flowers to the front of the paper plate pond. Once dry, it’s ready for little one to play with! Aren’t they just too cute!

Paper doily peacock craft for kids

Today’s make is only a little one but we still love this paper doily peacock craft. He’s so sweet and simple to make which made it easy to squeeze in some crafting on this busy day! My little guy is back to school tomorrow so today has been a busy day washing and labeling clothes and generally getting prepared. I must say I’m quite nervous about school. We both have mixed emotions about it and I’m going to miss him so much during the days but I know he is desperate to see his friends again. It also means that the dynamic of the blog is going to change too as we won’t have so much time crafting together but don’t worry we’ll still find a way to share plenty of fun crafts for you to make with your little ones!

Heres what we used:

  • Paper doily
  • Purple, blue and green paints
  • Painting sponge
  • Blue, white and yellow paper
  • Eye stickers
  • Scissors
  • Glue

How to make our paper doily peacock craft

First take your paper doily and fold the bottom outer lace edge up to the top inner lace edge.

Use a sponge to lightly dab peacock colours all over the paper doily. Remember to be very gentle and dab rather than brush as paper doilies rip very easily. Once covered, put the doily aside to dry.

Today our little guy decided he wanted to paint a new picture for his wall, so whilst he was busy with his masterpiece, my daughter and I sat down for some crafting time too. She’s only one but she loves getting involved with painting and crafting. I thought instead of just painting on a piece of paper it might be nice for her to make something to go in her bedroom which we are in the process of decorating. we’ve already got something of an animal theme going on so this painted owl toddler craft will be a perfect addition. Plus, she absolutely loved making them, of course my son and I cut out the shapes for her but she loved doing all the painting and sticking down. This little craft will definitely being going In the keepsake box when she grows out of it in her room!

You will need

  • White crafting paper or card
  • Paints and paintbrush
  • Black, orange and yellow paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Take your white paper/card and cut out a circle to make your owl’s head and two leaf shaped wings.

Now it’s time for little one to create their masterpiece! Once they have finished painting put it to one side to dry.

Once your paper owl pieces are finished take the wings and glue one to either side of your circle head.

Cut out two orange circles and glue them near them near the top of the wings. Then, cut out two smaller black circles to make the pupils and glue them on to the orange ones. Toilet roll pheasant craft

Toilet roll pheasant craft

Living out in the countryside we see quite a lot of these little guys running around. When they’re out in force we have to drive around the roads at 5 mph because they’ll just appear out of nowhere! They drive my other half crazy. My son loves them though, he likes to see how many he can spot. He thinks they’re pretty and that they look a bit funny when they run. I think he’s right on both counts! My little guy suggested that we should buy one but seeing as I’m a little bit terrified of farm birds like chicken and pheasants we decided to make ourselves a Toilet roll pheasant craft pet instead!

You will need

  • 1 Tp roll
  • Brown, green and white paint
  • Red and yellow paper
  • Feathers
  • Sticker eyes OR white paper and a black marker
  • Scissors
  • Glue

To start off you will need to paint your Toilet Paper roll in those gorgeous pheasant colours. Paint about half of it using your brown paint, then paint a small white band for the collar. Finish off by painting the remaining part of the tube with your green paint.

Cut out a peanut shaped piece from your red paper and glue it down in place on the green part of your tp roll – just like you can see above!

Now to give your pheasant two eyes. We used eye stickers but if you don’t have these you can simply cut out two white circles and draw the details on using your black marker. Once you’ve stuck down the eyes it’s time to make a beak. Fold a piece of paper in half and using the fold line as the base, cut out a triangle to give you a folded diamond shape. Glue one half of your diamond down on your pheasant and leave the other half free.

Glue a feather to each side of your pheasant’s face to make his wings.

To make your pheasant’s tail, cut out a long thin raindrop shape…

And cover it with feathers. Trim off some of the excess to try and keep the pointed shape.

Use a generous blob of glue to secure your pheasant’s tail to his body and put it aside to dry. Once dry your toilet paper roll pheasant craft is finished and ready for a play in the garden!
