Aren’t Robin’s just the sweetest little birds? We get quite a lot of them in our garden, they’re so confident too, often landing right next to us. We had so much fun making this paper plate Robin, my little guy loved the fact that he got to paint, cut out and use his favourite craft material (feathers!) all in one go. Even if our kitchen did look like someone had ripped open a feather pillow afterwards!

You will need

  • Paper plate
  • Red and brown paint
  • Eye stickers OR white paper and black marker
  • Yellow paper
  • Feathers
  • Scissors
  • Glue

First take out your paper plate and cut out your bird shape, you can make two birds from one paper plate by cutting it through the centre.

Now it’s time to start turning your bird into a robin! Take your red paint and paint on a red semi-circle belly, then fill the rest of the plate with brown paint for the back. Put your bird aside to dry.

Next your bird will need a beak and an eye. Cut out a triangle for the beak and glue it in place on the back of your paper plate. Now to stick on the eye, we used eye stickers but if you don’t have these you can just cut out a white paper circle and draw on the details using your black marker.

Glue a feather across your Robin’s body to make the wing. Then take 4 or 5 feathers, group them together and stick them down on the back of your paper plate at the rear point of the Robin to make his tail. You might need to wait a minute for the glue to dry slightly.

Simple Toilet roll parrot

Birds have been a popular topic in our house the last couple of days. Yesterday we made a gorgeous tp roll Peacock and today this cute and simple parrot pal. My son loves to dress up as a Pirate and go on little treasure hunts around the house and this little parrot makes the perfect pirate accessory. They’re really easy to make and cost barely anything too!

You will need

  • Toilet roll/cardboard tube
  • feathers
  • White & yellow paper
  • marker
  • scissors
  • quick drying glue

Start off by covering your Tp roll in red paint and then put it aside to dry.

Once your parrot’s tp roll body is dry, take two long feathers and glue one either side to make two wings.

take a 5-6 multicoloured feathers and glue them down in a bunch on the back of the parrot’s body. put aside to dry the feathers in place.

whilst waiting for the body piece to dry you can make your parrots face. Cut out two small white circles or ovals for the eyes and use a marker pen to draw on some pupils. to make the break fold a piece of yellow paper in half and cut out a triangle using the fold as the bottom of the triangle. This will give you this perfect folded diamond beak.

Glue on your Parrots facial features and he is finished. So simple and easy!

Tp roll peacock craft for kids

If you have been to this blog before you will know that my son and i love animals. Our favourite days out are spent going to animal sanctuaries. Birds are a species that are easily overlooked, they’re not as tall as a giraffe or as cool as a lion but they are certainly beautiful! My niece and nephew recently gifted my son with a peacock feather and this inspired my son to make his own peacock pal. After a bit of playing around we eventually came up with this little cutie – doesn’t he look fab!

Here’s what we used.

  • Tp Roll
  • Blue paint and paintbrush
  • Coloured paper
  • Feathers
  • Paper plate
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Eye stickers (optional)

How to make our TP roll peacock.

Coat your Tp roll in your peacock blue paint and then put it aside to dry.

Whilst your peacock’s body is drying you can work on the tail. Take your paper plate and cut it in half. Keep one half and put the other aside.

Cut out two little elongated feet and fold a tab at the end of each one. Use these tabs to stick your feet inside the bottom of your TP roll, then fold your feet outwards.

Cover the back of your TP roll in glue and then align it centrally and inline with the bottom of your paper plate before sticking it down. Your TP roll peacock is finished! Doesn’t he look awesome?
