This cute summer dragonfly craft is a great activity to keep the kids busy over the summer holidays and it looks adorable too! We used a glue gun to make our little butterflies but it works with pva or tacky glue too; you just need to be a little extra patient!
Here’s what we used
Popsicle sticks
Tacky glue/glue gun/pva
Googly eyes
Pipe Cleaners
Scissors
How to make this cute summer dragonfly craft
Glue several smaller Pom poms across the length of the popsicle stick to make the body and a large one on the end to make the end. if you’re using pva or slow drying tacky glue then you will need to leave it a while to die.
Twist two pipe cleaners together in the middle to make a cross. Twist the centre of the pipe cleaners around the popsicle stick near the head and then bend each wing piece inwards and twist to secure.
Now twist another pipe cleaner around the stick at its centre and curl the ends around to make the antennae.
Glue on two Googly eyes and once dry your adorable popsicle stick dragonfly is ready to play with or display!
my youngest child has been absolutely fascinated with butterflies over the last couple of months so i recently picked up one of my favorite childhood books for her; the very hungry caterpillar. She loved the story so much and really enjoyed learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. So much so that we decided we would make her very own caterpillar to go on her wall. These adorable potato stamped caterpillars are so cute and easy to make which means they’re the perfect fun craft for older and younger children alike!
Here’s what we used
Potatoes
Coloured paint
Coloured paper
Googly eyes
Scissors
Glue
Coloured marker
How to make potato stamped caterpillars
Take the potato and chop it in half ready for your little one to use as a stamp. We used three potato halves to make our caterpillar.
Add three different coloured paints onto the tray and place a potato in each.
Now its time for the fun part! Print the potatoes onto the paper to make the caterpillar’s body then Put the caterpillar aside to dry.
Add two eyes and some antennae to the caterpillar and then cut out and stick on several little feet. We then finished our cute caterpillar pictures by mounting them onto some cardboard. Once dry they’re ready to display and don’t they just look fab!
Create beautiful and unique butterfly designs with this adorable summer butterfly craft for kids!
We love a good summery craft and my kids had so much fun designing their own beautiful little butterflies. We used paints to decorate our butterflies but you and your kids can get as creative as you like! why not decorate them with some gluing and sticking? or how about using coloured pencils? Either way we just love seeing how your home crafting turns out – did you know that we are now on Facebook? You can share your photos with us there!
Take the lollipop stick and glue a large pom pom at one end. Cover the rest of the stick with a row of slightly smaller pom poms and set it aside to dry.
Take your free butterfly wings template and cut it out (as you can see we printed our template directly onto our yellow card but you can always just use the template to draw around). Once the wings are cut out use your markers, paints or embellishments to decorate them with.
One dry, take the pom pom covered lollipop stick. Twist a pipe cleaner securely around the body of the stick just below the butterfly’s pom pom head. trim the two ends of pipecleaner to the desired length before curling each end slightly to make the antennae. Glue on two googly eyes and optionally a mouth.
Stick the Butterfly’s pipe cleaner body down in place on its wings and leave until completely dried. The butterflies are then ready to show off and display – Aren’t they just the cutest!?
With all the lovely sunshine that we have been having here in the UK we haven’t really been crafting much this week. We have however had a wonderful weekend visiting a local beach and playing in the garden.
One thing we noticed whilst playing in the garden is that the butterfly’s are back! It was so lovely to see them and a good sign that summer is on its way – we can’t wait! So for today’s craft we wanted to share this super cute toilet roll butterfly craft. Aren’t they just lovely? So bright and beautiful!
Heres what we used
Coloured paints and paintbrush
Pipe cleaner
Coloured card
Googly eyes
Toilet roll
Scissors
Glue (we used a glue gun but you could always PVA and peg!)
How to make our toilet roll butterfly craft
Start by taking your empty toilet rolls and coating them inside out in the chosen colour of paint.
Once dry, you will need to cut the rolls into four equal rings. Our rings are each 1/4 of a roll.
Now to make the butterfly’s body! Take a pipe cleaner and cut it in half. Line the two pieces up and begin twisting them together at one end leaving only a small section untwisted at the top for the antennae. Cut out a circle for the butterfly’s face and add details such as the googly eyes, a mouth and some rosy cheeks. Then glue the face onto the pipe cleaner just below the base of the antennae.
Take each of your toilet roll rings and pinch them at opposite ends to make the shape of the wings. Glue one of your upper wings to a lower wing at the point. Repeat this with the other two wings. Then glue both sides of wings together with the butterfly’s body in the middle (if using PVA you may need to peg the pieces together whist drying). Once dry your cute little toilet roll butterfly craft is finished!
