  • Hole punch

How to make a paper heart garland.

Start by cutting out the paper strips that you will use for your heart. We used four for each side. Cut out the strips for one side first, each strip should be the same width but you’ll need to cut each strip to a different length as you can see above. For out largest strip we used the length of a piece of a4 paper and then we cut each one down by a couple cms each time. Once you have your four strips cut out four identical ones to make the other side of the heart.

Take the smallest strip and add a dab of glue to one end pull the other end round into a tear shape and pinch the two ends together until stuck.

Next take the second shortest strip and again add glue to one end. Attach it to the point of your first tear drop shape and then take the other end and glue it down onto the other side of the tear drop to create a second layer.

Repeat this process with the remaining strips you have for this side

Repeat the previous steps to create a second tear drop shape.

To hang your hearts as part of a garland or as an individual decoration; Cut out a small rectangle strip the same width as the strips you used to make your heart and punch a hole at one end.

Glue the two sides of the heart together with the hanging strip to dry. Repeat this process to make as many hearts as you need, once dry use the hole punched part of the strips to thread the strings through and create your paper heart garland!

Yarn wrapped hearts

Yarn wrapped hearts

How cute are these yarn wrapped hearts – Perfect for gifting!

It’s a little bit late to be sharing these for valentines day but we made them a couple of days ago and I think they are just too cute not to share! These little hearts are so sweet and fun to craft and are fab as little handmade gifts for children to make and gift for valentines day, mothers day, fathers day, birthdays and much more. The best part is that they’re so simple and quick to make too!

Here’s what you’ll need

  • A piece of cardboard (an old box will do!)
  • Yarn
  • Stapler or tape

How to make these yarn wrapped hearts

Take a piece of old cardboard and cut out the base shape of your heart. Attach the end of the yarn onto the heart using either tape or staples.

Wrap the yarn around the heart several times until you get a nice thick and puffy heart shape. Don’t worry if the yarn slips during the first couple of rounds, it gets easier as the heart gets bigger and you have more yarn for it to catch on. Once you’re happy with the size of the heart, snip off the yarn and tie your loose end around one of the strands on the heart before gentle tucking the loose end into the heart.

To use the yarn heart as a hanging ornament simply cut out a length of yarn, thread it under the yarn at the top center of the heart and tie it into a knot.

How adorable are these little yarn tassel doll charms? They were actually inspired by our yarn ghost charms that we made. I noticed how much the tassels looked like dresses and out sprung the idea for this little craft. My son has really enjoyed making these to gift to his nan and aunties, he found them a bit tricky at the start but soon picked it up. He’s also made one to gift to his cousin to go on her school bag – such a cute idea!

Heres what we used

(small objects can be choking hazards, this activity is best suited to older children and children should be supervised at all times)

How to make a tassel doll keyring

First you’ll need to cut out a rectangle from your cardboard, it doesn’t need to be anything fancy – you can see here that were using a battered up piece of cereal box! You’ll need to make sure the height of the rectangle matches the length you want your tassel to be.

Starting at the bottom side, take your yarn and begin wrapping it around your cardboard. Make sure it’s secure but not so tight that it buckles your cardboard. Continue wrapping it around and then once you have reached your desired thickness cut it off at the bottom side where you first started.

Cut off a length of yarn and fold it in half. Then, tie a loop at the centre fold.

Using the two loose ends, tie your loop tightly around the centre of your yarn.

Slip your yarn off of your cardboard. Turn it inside out so that the loop is outside and on top as you can see above.

Place your scissors through the loops and then gently snip them open. I find that the best way to ensure that the ends are snipped evenly is to pull downwards as I snip to ensure I’m snipping the bottom center of each loop.

Now cut two lengths of yarn. Tie one just below the top of your tassel to create the dress shape and the other onto the loop just above your tassel to create arms.

Take your wooden bead and draw your dolls face on to it before threading it onto your loop. Finish off by adding a keying onto the top of your loop. Don’t these yarn tassel doll charms look adorable?
