Today’s make is only a little one but we still love this paper doily peacock craft. He’s so sweet and simple to make which made it easy to squeeze in some crafting on this busy day! My little guy is back to school tomorrow so today has been a busy day washing and labeling clothes and generally getting prepared. I must say I’m quite nervous about school. We both have mixed emotions about it and I’m going to miss him so much during the days but I know he is desperate to see his friends again. It also means that the dynamic of the blog is going to change too as we won’t have so much time crafting together but don’t worry we’ll still find a way to share plenty of fun crafts for you to make with your little ones!

Heres what we used:

  • Paper doily
  • Purple, blue and green paints
  • Painting sponge
  • Blue, white and yellow paper
  • Eye stickers
  • Scissors
  • Glue

How to make our paper doily peacock craft

First take your paper doily and fold the bottom outer lace edge up to the top inner lace edge.

Use a sponge to lightly dab peacock colours all over the paper doily. Remember to be very gentle and dab rather than brush as paper doilies rip very easily. Once covered, put the doily aside to dry.

This Cute paper doily lion craft is perfect for those quiet rainy days at home. We’ve been planning to make some doily crafts for a while now as we have a huge pack of them. My little guy never really liked to use them before as they’re so easy to tear but now he’s a little bit bigger he finds it much easier. The trick is to keep them as dry as possible by using only a little paint. We love how our lions turned out and we’ve added them to our ever growing safari craft collection! Why not have a go at making your own doily lions?

Here’s what we used

  • Paper Doily
  • Paint (We used orange, yellow and brown)
  • Paint sponge
  • Coloured paper
  • Black marker
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Take your sponge and lightly dab your coloured paints on to your doily – remember less is more as paper doily’s will quickly tear if they get too wet. When you have finished pop your doily to one side to dry.

Scrap paper lion craft

Scrap paper lion craft

Our scrap paper drawer has been busting at the seams of late so we decided it was time that we made another scrap paper craft. We noticed that we had a huge amount of yellow and orange paper so we decided to make something using those colours. My son actually came up with the idea to make a lion, he has a bunch of lion toys and is totally fascinated by them so it was a perfect idea. We worked together to come up with our cute scrap paper lion craft and we think he is totally roarsome!

Here’s what we used.

  • Coloured scrap paper (beige, yellow, orange, brown etc)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Marker
  • Backing sheet of paper

How to make our scrap paper lion craft.

Start off your lion by making his face. The easiest way to do this is to draw a circle onto your paper and then draw two semi-circles close together at the top of the circle to make ears. Then cut out your lions face shape.

Cut out and glue down a pink rounded triangle for your lion’s nose and two semi circles for the inner ears.

Give your lion two eyes and then use your black marker to draw on a mouth and some whiskers.

Glue your lion’s face on to your backing paper. Then, take your scrap paper and cut it onto strips. Finish off your awesome scrap paper lion craft by gluing your strips in a circle around your lion to make his mane. Doesn’t he look fab!

We would love to see how your lion turned out. Parents, did you know you can share them with us on facebook and twitter?

After all the lovely weather we’ve been having lately it was a bit of a shock to wake up to the downpour that we had here this morning. After a busy morning indoors tidying my sons room and sorting his toy boxes we thought we would have a chilled afternoon making some crafts. Today’s animal craft is yet another elephant. I think were a bit elephant obsessed! This little DIY paper craft elephant is pretty adorable though and the best part is all you really need is paper scissors and glue – perfect for a little home project!

You will need

  • Coloured crafting paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Sticker eyes (optional)

First start off by making your elephants legs. Cut out a rounded rectangle shape from your coloured paper.

From each side of your rectangle cut a rounded arch to give you a H shape like you can see above.

Now cut out a round piece of brown paper to make the base on which your elephant will stand. Take your legs and make a small fold at the bottom of each one to give your elephant feet. Use these feet to glue your elephant to your base.

Now its time to make your elephant’s head! Cut out a strip the same colour as your elephants body but slightly smaller than the one you used for the legs.

Roll your strip up into a tube and secure with glue.

From the same colour as the head, cut out two big elephant ears. You’ll also need to cut out two slightly smaller coloured inner ears too. Glue the inner ears on to the outer ears.

To make the trunk cut out a rounded carrot shape (slightly bigger at the top than the bottom) and fold it one way and then the other in an accordion fold until you reach the end. For the end of the trunk, cut out a small round oval and two little strips for the nostrils. Glue the nostrils on to the oval shape and the oval shape on to the narrow part of the trunk.

Glue a ear on the inside of each end of your tube and then add the trunk to the centre of your elephants face.

If you want to add some grass to your elephant design, cut out a rectangle shape and fold it in half to make a tab. Cut several snips into one half of your shape and then glue it down using your other half. Your super cute paper elephant is finished! aren’t they fab!
