Woven Easter basket craft.

Woven Easter basket craft

I cant believe it’s almost Easter already. The shops have already started stocking eggs and bonnets and the children are starting to learn the easter story. One thing my son is really looking forward to is the easter egg hunts. We always have one at home and were lucky enough to have to live in a fab community which hosts a couple. So for crafting today he wanted to make some Easter eggs in a basket, after a little bit of thinking we came up with this Woven Easter basket craft and i have to say – I’m pretty chuffed with how they have turned out!

You will need

  • Dark and light brown paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Coloured paper
  • Coloured markers
  • A plate to draw around

To start you will need to make the shape of your basket. To do this we usually draw halfway round a small plate. Once you have cut out your shape you need to draw 5 or 6 vertical lines on it, try to spread them fairly evenly.

Use the tip of your scissors to score along the lines or simply fold the paper slightly and cut along them. Then, take your lighter paper and cut out some strips that are at least 1cm wider than your basket shape.

Weave your strips into your basket following an under then over pattern. Remember to alternate how you start your strips. If you started your last one by going over then start the next one by going under. Trim off the excess and glue down the lose ends.

To make your handle, draw halfway around the same small plate that you used before and cut out your semi circle.

Cut a smaller semi circle from the inside of your big semi circle to give you your handle. Glue it down on the back of your basket base.

Cut out and decorate your easter egg shapes.

Finally, glue down your Easter eggs in place on the back of your basket and you are finished! How cute does your Easter basket look? All ready for a visit from the Easter bunny!
