Cut out several equal sized strips from the coloured card. You’ll probably need at least 6 plus to make a long enough snake.
Create a loop with your first strip and then continue paper chaining your strips until you reach your desired length
Now it’s time to make the head! You’ll want the head to be the same on both sides so the easiest way is to take a piece of card and fold it in half. From the fold line draw a tab to chain with and then add the shape of the head. Once you’re happy with your shape go ahead and cut it out.
Cut out a tongue and glue it down on the bottom side of the head. Add two googly eyes and any extra details then thread the head through the chain and glue together at the mouth as you can see above.
Finally we need to add the tail! Cut out a long thin triangle and glue it around the tail to finish your snake!
With all the wet and windy weather we’ve been having lately its been the perfect time for some fun indoor crafts. These super fun paper snakes are great for keeping the kids entertained – mine certainly love them!

How to make these fun paper snakes!
Start by taking the coloured paper and drawing a circle onto it. To make it easier we used a plate to draw around. Then starting from the outside of the circle draw a spiral into the centre.
Take your markers/paint etc and decorate your paper snake spiral.
Draw the shape of the snake’s head on to the coloured paper. Cut out the head and then cut out the circle snake before cutting along the lines of the spiral.
Use the marker to add some eyes and nostrils. Then cut out the shape of the tongue and glue it onto the back of the head before gluing the head onto the center of the spiral. Once dry the snake is finished! Don’t these look amazing?
Sometimes the best crafts are the most simple ones! My little guy has had so much fun making and playing with this cute little cardboard slithering snake craft. Since lock down started back in March we’ve been ordering so much more stuff to the house rather than going out to buy it. We’ve ended up with this massive tower of cardboard boxes that we’ve slowly been trying and failing to stuff in the recycling bins. Hence why todays craft is made from old boxes! My son actually came up with the idea to make snakes after seeing some grass snakes near our house and we just love how they’ve turned out!

How to make a slithering snake
First take your cardboard box and cut out some similarly sized ovals to make the snakes body. We made 5 ovals per snake but you can make your snake as long as you like!
Now its time to decorate your snake! Why not add some fun zig zags or paint and print some bubble wrap to look like scales?!
Once dry its time to piece your snake together! Start with the head piece and then pin each consecutive one underneath the previous one using your split pins.
Finish off your awesome cardboard slithering snake craft by giving him two eyes and a pipe cleaner tongue, so much fun!
Today my son decided that whilst his sister was asleep he wanted to make something cool with our leftover clay. When i handed him a chunk to model with, he immediately began rolling it out saying that he was making a snake. So, with this is mind i suggested that we make our own little snake pots. I’m not quite sure why, but i can remember as kid that every time we made something with clay at school I would always make these pots without fail as my 1st choice! I’m not quite sure why or where I got the idea, I just remember having them all lined up across my windowsill in different colours. I used to think they looked amazing and that I was an amazing potter. Truth be told, I had no idea what i was doing then and i’m still learning now!

Score and slip
Score and slip is a process used to join pieces of clay. It’s important to join your pieces properly to prevent breaking and cracking whilst drying. To attach two pieces together using score and slip you first score lines or hashtags across the two pieces you want to join or the pieces that will touch. You then take your slip (a mixture of very watery clay) and spread it across both sides of your lines as a kind of glue before securing your two pieces together and moulding them as one with your hands.
First take a ball of clay and flatten it into a disc shape. You will want it around 1-2 cm thick as this is going to be the base of your pot, rolled out to the width you wish your pot to be. Once you have your shape score some lines around the outside where you will stick your snake shape.
Take another larger ball of clay and using two hands roll it into a long snake shaped piece.
Add some slip to the scored part of your base, then similarly slip and score the underside of your snake where it will attach to the base. Then wind your snake slowly round and round itself, repeating the process of scoring and sitting where two pieces will attach to each other. You may also need to use your fingers to work the two pieces of clay together.
If when you have wound your snake around your pot, you find that it is not long enough you can roll out and add another. Just remember this is again joining two pieces so you will need to score and slip both sides and then work them together with you fingers.
Once you reach the top, take a ball and roll out the shape of your snake’s head. Attach it your body by scoring and slipping then working the pieces together by hand.
Bend your pipecleaner into a Y shape and press it into the centre of your snake’s face to make the tongue. Then press a gem/bead either side of your tongue to make two eyes. Now it’s time to leave your pot to dry. You’ll want to make sure it drys evenly, to do this we normally pop a plastic bag over the top and leave it for a day or two until hard.
Once your pot is dry you can add your base coat. If you find your paint is not thick enough to cover in one go just let it dry before adding a second. When we painted ours we just popped the tongue out to stop it getting covered.
Once your base coat is dry you can paint on any additional decoration. When your pot has dried you are finished! Don’t they just look amazing, you can use them for so many different things too! We have a tall one as a pen pot and a short one as a jewellery dish.
Today’s craft is a 5 minute make. My son loves all things animal and today he asked if we could make a snake from a fluffy pipe cleaner that he found in the craft box. After a bit of trial and error we came up with these pipe cleaner snakes. we used a glue gun to make this cute little guy and it was secure enough for my three year old to be able to play with without it breaking. All for less than £1 of materials!
You will need
Pipe cleaners Large pom pom Googly eyes Glue gun Scissors
Take your two coloured pipe cleaners and twist them together at one end. Continue to twist them together all the way down to make one thick stem and secure them tightly at the end.
Glue your large pom pom on one end of your stem to make your snake’s head.
Give your snake two googly eyes. All that’s left to do now is to make the tongue. Take a short length of pipe cleaner and pinch it into a V shape. Glue the pipe cleaner tongue as deep as possible into the pom pom to make sure its secure.
