Toilet roll bumble bee craft

Toilet roll bumble bee craft

We’re back again with yet another toilet roll craft idea! This sweet and simple toilet roll bumble bee craft was perfect for some sunny day crafting. My little boy had so much fun making our old yarn wrapped bees but sadly they’re looking a little bit on the sad and sorry side so we decided it was time to make some more bumbles to play with. We just love how cute these turned out!

Here’s what we used

  • Empty toilet rolls
  • Black, white and yellow paper
  • Wiggly eyes
  • Pipe Cleaner
  • Scissors
  • Glue

How to make our toilet roll bumble bee craft

Take the black and yellow paper, cut out a few strips from each and glue them around the empty toilet roll in a repeating black and yellow pattern

Take your toilet roll and place it on the center of your pipe cleaner. twist the pipe cleaner around the head section of the bee and then roll up the two ends to make the antennae. Once the antennae is secure glue on two wiggly eyes.

Cut out two oval wings, Fold a small tab at the end of each and then use the tab to secure the wings to the bumble bee’s back. Cut out a small pointed stinger and glue it on the inside of the tail end of the bee. Once dry the toilet roll bumble bee is ready to play with or display!

Toilet roll wand craft for kids

These cute toilet roll magic wands are inexpensive to make and provide hours of fun too!

My kids really loved the toilet roll flowers we made to decorate their rooms. They are forever playing with them and today they were using them as magic wands to turn each other into frogs and whatnot. I thought this was a fab idea and it gave us the inspiration to make these cute little toilet roll wands – I just love them! The kids have played with them for hours, they’re great for imaginative play and provide just as much fun as any store bought toy too. They need a lot of glue gun usage so require an adult to make.

Here’s what we used

  • Toilet rolls
  • Coloured paint and paintbrush
  • Wooden skewer (pointy end removed!)
  • Ribbon
  • Something for the middle (pom pom, button etc)
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun

How to make these toilet roll magic wands

Start by taking some paint and colouring the TP rolls and optionally the wand stick too. For this wand we used one blue roll, one white roll and a painted blue skewer (pointy end chopped off for safety!)

Once dry, take the tp roll that you will be using for the main part of the wand and chop it into five equal rings.

Use the hot glue gun to attach two rings both together and to the stick.

Finish adding the rest of the rings to make a star shape. for stability you will need to make sure they are glued to the rings on either side.

Take the secondary colour tp roll and cut it into 8 strips. Take two of your strips and fold them in half. Glue one of the strips inside the other as above and the repeat this three more times until you have four of these shapes.

Glue your shapes into the empty spaces between the rings of the wand as above. Then add a pom pom, a button or similar to the centre of the wand.

Pinch the rings at each side to form the petal shapes. Using a blob of glue at one end, glue a petal on either side of the stem. Then continue to glue the petals around ensuring they are glued to the petal on either side of it.

Cut out a coloured circle to make the centre of the flower and use a black marker to add some seeds. Glue the circle down in place.

Toilet roll butterfly craft

Toilet roll butterfly craft

With all the lovely sunshine that we have been having here in the UK we haven’t really been crafting much this week. We have however had a wonderful weekend visiting a local beach and playing in the garden.

One thing we noticed whilst playing in the garden is that the butterfly’s are back! It was so lovely to see them and a good sign that summer is on its way – we can’t wait! So for today’s craft we wanted to share this super cute toilet roll butterfly craft. Aren’t they just lovely? So bright and beautiful!

Heres what we used

  • Coloured paints and paintbrush
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Coloured card
  • Googly eyes
  • Toilet roll
  • Scissors
  • Glue (we used a glue gun but you could always PVA and peg!)

Once dry, you will need to cut the rolls into four equal rings. Our rings are each 1/4 of a roll.

Now to make the butterfly’s body! Take a pipe cleaner and cut it in half. Line the two pieces up and begin twisting them together at one end leaving only a small section untwisted at the top for the antennae. Cut out a circle for the butterfly’s face and add details such as the googly eyes, a mouth and some rosy cheeks. Then glue the face onto the pipe cleaner just below the base of the antennae.

Take each of your toilet roll rings and pinch them at opposite ends to make the shape of the wings. Glue one of your upper wings to a lower wing at the point. Repeat this with the other two wings. Then glue both sides of wings together with the butterfly’s body in the middle (if using PVA you may need to peg the pieces together whist drying). Once dry your cute little toilet roll butterfly craft is finished!

This week at school my son has been learning all about Chinese new year, the story of the zodiac and about various different traditions. Today for his assignment he was asked to make his own model Chinese dragon with a grown up! As you can imagine we couldn’t wait to get started on our next crafty project and this dragon was soo much fun to make together. I helped little man with the glue gun and he did everything else by himself!

Here’s what we used

We used a variety of materials for our dragon but you can substitute for anything you like!

  • Toilet rolls
  • Red card
  • Pom poms
  • Googly eyes
  • Buttons
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Straws
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun

Now to make the dragons face. Glue an eye onto two poms poms and then glue the pom poms onto one end of the toilet roll. Take two buttons and glue them on the opposite end to make the nostrils.

Tear some strips of coloured tissue paper and glue it around the inside of the tube end closest to the nostrils. Twirl pipe cleaners around a pencil or your finger to make the smoke and glue one onto each nostril.

Take a length of ribbon and thread it through each toilet roll. Glue each one about a cm apart onto the ribbon. Finish by taking the straws and making several 1cm snips into one end of each. Use this end to attach the straws to the dragon and you are finished! Doesn’t it look fab? It’s so much fun to play with too!
