After making our adorable Toilet roll humpback whales the other day, my little boy was absolutely determined that we should make some more whale designs. So today we’re sharing this cute toilet roll orca whale craft with you! My little guy designed these by himself and did most of the work by himself too. He is so pleased with them and has been playing with them non stop for the last hour, he really loves them and i think they are pretty cute too!
Here’s what we used
Toilet roll
Black and white paper
Black and pink paint and paintbrush
Scissors
Glue
Googly eyes
How to make a Toilet roll orca whale
Take the paper roll and coat the inside of one end in the pink paint before painting the outside black and then popping it aside to dry.
Cut out the shape of the whale’s tail and glue it in place inside the toilet roll body. Then cut out two fin shapes and fold a small tab at the base of each that you can then use to glue them onto either side of the whale.
Cut out two white ovals and glue them near the head of the whale. Add some more white patches around the tail of the whale.
Glue a googly eye on either side of the whale. Optionally cut out and glue on a third fin on top of the whale as the dorsal fin. Leave to dry and once done the toilet roll orca whale is finished!
If you have been following our blog, you will know that my little boy just LOVES all things under the sea. He’s always teaching me new things that he has learned from his books and from watching the documentaries on Disney +. Whales in particular are his all time favourite creatures. So, for the last few days we’ve been super busy making some fun whale craft ideas to share with you! We started off with this adorable paper plate orca whale and we just love him – he looks so sweet (though my son assures me real killer whales are not so sweet!). This simple little craft is easy to make and bound to be a hit with any young ocean enthusiasts!
Here’s what we used
Paper plate
Black card
Black paint and brush
White, black, blue and pink paper

How to make a paper plate orca whale
Take the paper plate and cover the top 3/4 in black paint before popping aside to dry. (for younger children it may be easier to just paint the whole plate black and then cut out and glue on a small section of another plain white plate as we did with my youngest)
Cut out the leaf shape of the whale’s flippers and dorsal fins then glue them down in position on the back of the paper plate.
Glue on two inwards facing white arches on either side of the paper plate near where the eyes will be.
Cut out two large ovals for the outer eyes, two slightly smaller black circles for the pupils and two small white circles for the light spots. Glue the pieces together and then onto the paper plate. Cut out and stick down a semi circle mouth and then once dry the paper plate orca is finished!
If you hadn’t already realised, we absolutely love to make ocean themed crafts in this house. Learning about sea creatures is something we all find enjoyable. Right now my son is obsessed with Orcas so this little paper plate whale was the perfect afternoon craft for us. We even looked up some whale facts whilst crafting to make it a bit more educational! Did you know, killer whales have around 45 teeth! (if you want to learn more, check out the national geographic kids site – that’s what we were looking at and its great!)
You will need
A Paper plate Black paint Googly eye Pink paper White tissue paper Scissors Glue
Take your paper plate and fold it in half. Draw your whale shape on to your folded plate. You can see that I have left a portion of the fold at the whales head and tail untouched, you don’t want to cut all of the fold line as your whale needs two sides attached to be able to rock!
Now to paint your Orca Whale! Use your black paint to paint his body but leave a white space near the centre of his head and on his belly. (if you’re crafting with really young children you may find it easier to paint the whale totally black and then add the parts in using cut out white paper)
Using your scissors; cut out a small triangle for the mouth, add a thin pink strip to either side of the mouth to make some lips. To finish your whale’s face add a googly eye!
To add a water spout to your whale, take a square of white tissue paper and twist it to a point on one side. Use your scissors to make multiple snips on the other side.
Finally, make a small snip at the top of your whale’s head and pull the twisted end of your paper down through.
Your Rockin’ paper plate whale is finished, How great does he look!
